Lavender Oil – DIY Self Care Kit Item #1

Lavender oil is my favorite part of my self care kit. It has literally changed the way I sleep forever!! I find it helps put me in a calm and relaxed mental state before I start my nightly snooze.

I know it usually says on the bottle not to use it on your skin without a carrier oil (coconut oil etc) but YOLO! I usually keep the small dropper bottle next to my bed and put a few drops on my fingers. I rub it into the sides of my neck and my wrists.

I like have a dropper bottle so I can use the lavender oil for different things like foot baths or aromatherapy diffusers. But if you don’t want to use the lavender oil for anything else, you can buy a lavender roll on instead. They come in a little roller mixed with oil to keep by your bed side or in your bag!

My favorite place to find my essential oil self care tools is Piping Rock. They’re good quality and they’re not expensive at all.

High Frequency Music – DIY Self Care Kit Item #2

This is a new self care tool for me. I’ve started reading and watching a lot of things on how to increase your vibrational frequencies.

What is “vibrational frequency”?

Your ‘vibration’ is a fancy way of describing your overall state of being. Everything in the universe is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies. Even things that look solid are made up of vibrational energy fields at the quantum level. This includes you. 1

When it comes to vibrations, there are higher frequencies and lower frequencies. This is true for vibrations of being too. Lower vibrations of being are associated with disempowering thoughts, negative emotions, poor health and little or no spiritual awareness. A human being of an extremely low vibration would be someone like Hitler. Higher vibrations of being, on the other hand, are associated with empowering thoughts, positive emotions, good health and strong spiritual awareness. A human being of an extremely high vibration would be someone like the Dalai Lama. 2

This is what it means when someone has “good vibes” or “bad vibes”.

I was having a mentally tough time recently and decided to try this as part of my self care kit ideas.

Like any mental rut, trying to get myself out of the negative thought space was becoming really hard. It’s fair to say I was really giving off bad vibes. So I tried listening to high vibrational music I found on YouTube. I have been feeling better the past few days. Whether it was that or something else I can never say for sure but either way this ones a keeper for my mental self care kit.

Book – DIY Self Care Kit Item #3

Books always give me the answers to any trouble I’m having in life. Sometimes it might take me a while to find the right book, but I always do. It’s definitely an essential for any mental health care kit.

A simple tip to find any book for your self care survival kit is to type your current problem problem in Amazon. I always check some of the reviews and feedback of the books I’m looking at as a guide too.

Once you find a book, the rest is done for you! Often a lot of books will suggest other books in them. Keep a list of them and see what ones feel right to read next!

Some self care kit ideas in the book department that I highly recommend are:

Becoming Supernatural – Joe Dispenza

A Return to Love – Marianna Williamson

The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear to Faith – Gabrielle Bernstein

The Power of Intention: Learning to Co-create Your World Your Way by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer (2010-10-01) – Wayne Dyer (I’m currently reading this now and I LOVE it!)

Tears to Triumph: Spiritual Healing for the Modern Plagues of Anxiety and Depression – Marianna Williamson

Documentaries – DIY Self Care Kit Item #4

Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good book. But sometimes, after a long day of working, the best thing you can grab from your mental health care kit is a good, inspirational documentary.

This another new step for me. When I’ve been having a rough time, feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed by doubt, the way I go about changing my mindset is watching something inspirational. Something that will give me an “aha” moment.

I’ve found two great streaming websites (the holistic versions of Netflix) for this.

FMTV – FMTV has a huge bank of documentaries, recipes, guided programs & yoga/exercise videos. I would recommend FMTV for anyone who’s looking at changing their food habits. While they’re documentaries are good, they seem to have a lot more on food.

Gaia – Gaia is the ultimate place for spirituality & yoga. It doesn’t have so much on food like FMTV. Their categories explain it all – they have Yoga, Transformation, Seeking Truth & Film & Docs. A great part of Gaia though is their topics section. It has SO many topics to look through and guide you on where to go.

Some great videos I’ve watched recently and would definitely recommend as part of your mental health survival kit are:

The Abundance Code

E-Motion

Quiet Time – DIY Self Care Kit Item #5

While this isn’t actually a physical self care tool, it’s an important one to note! Everything I’ve read always goes back to the same thing – quieting the mind.

There are so many benefits to giving yourself quiet time to reflect & just breath.

If you struggle with this, a good idea is to create a sacred space or meditation space somewhere in your house. This doesn’t have to be a whole room or anything – it can literally be a corner!

I’ve written a post on it here – 5 Essential Items To Create A Peaceful Meditation Nook At Home

Epsom Salts / Rock Salt – DIY Self Care Kit Item #6

Epsom Salts or Organic Rock Salt is one of the most flexible items for mental health self care kit.

These salts are great for drawing out bad energy! You can use them in your bath or foot bath to help cleanse your body of toxins and negative energy. Another way this versatile self care tool can be used is by putting it in a bowl in the corners of a room or your house. This is said to help cleanse the house of negative energy.

I personally love to use it as part of my bath or foot bath self care kit ideas. I add a lil’ lavender and bicard soda to the mix and voila – we have a detox bath!

These self care tools are some of the simplest but most helpful ideas I’ve found. It’s so easy to create your own self care kit and there are so many benefits to it. So to recap my mental health self care kit:

  • Invest in some lavender oil to use before bed time
  • Use high frequency music to help you increase your vibes (and make you feel better)
  • Keep a book that’s related to what you’re having trouble with at the moment
  • For those times when reading just feels like too much mental exercise, try watching an inspirational documentary on FMTV or Gaia
  • Practice quiet time in a sacred space
  • Use Epsom salts or rock salt to help cleanse yourself or your surroundings from negative energy
