The Matcha Bandwagon And Why You Need To Jump On

I don’t know if you’ve seen these days but Matcha is in (clearly sarcasm, because it’s everywhere!).

Matcha pancakes (delicious by the way), matcha protein balls, matcha tea.

You say it, matcha’s done it!

Jokes aside. Matcha is a great addition to your life!

What is matcha

Matcha is a Japanese tea. It is traditionally whisked in a bowl. There is another way to make it – ain’t nobody got time for that!

It’s made by grinding the tea leaves into a fine powder. Which is why it makes it so strong. It’s tea at it’s finest!

It ends up being a slightly foamy, green tea. It’s a bit bitter at first. But it doesn’t take long to get used to it.

Why matcha?

So the important bit. What’s the big fuss.

It wakes you up like coffee

Match has one-third the caffeine of a cup of coffee but without the jitters. I drank it every morning and work. And if I didn’t, I noticed the difference. 1

This combination of caffeine + phytonutrients + antioxidants + amino acids produces an unusual effect on matcha drinkers: an uncanny ability to focus and be productive over an extended period of a few hours (for some, the effect can last up to six hours).2

Ridiculous amount of antioxidants

One cup of Matcha has 10 x the amount of antioxidants of as one cup of green tea.

It has a load more antioxidants than berries

What does this mean?

The more anti-oxidants in the body, the more our body is protected by free radicals (such as air pollution, or bad foods we eat).

Helps your immune system

With all the anti-oxidants it has, it’s impossible not to!

Dieting Well explains it well (pun intended):

The immune system is your body’s defense system. It is made up of cells, tissues and organs that work together to protect your body from bacteria, infections and fungi that causes harmful diseases. When your immune system is compromised, it makes your body susceptible to anything.

Matcha Tea can strengthen your immune system due to its healthy nutrients. The antioxidants, amino acids, catechins, vitamins and minerals in the tea can help boost your immune system. An antioxidant, alone, acts as an antibiotic.3.

Simple terms – the stronger our immune system, the less colds and nasty infections we get!

Speeds up your metabolism

Matcha has a property in it called EGCG (a popular antioxidant found in green teas). It has the power to increase your fat burn up to 40%.4.

A study also found that if you drink matcha right after a workout, it can help burn up to 25% more fat.5.

How to use it

The quickest way to have matcha is just to drink it as a tea. I use the T2 Matcha Flask. Qtr teaspoon of matcha, some hot water, shake a few times and easy does it!

Not a tea person? Well don’t fret!

Matcha can and has gotten around.

You can make pancakes, smoothies, smoothie bowls, lattes & more!

Just sprinkle a bit of the magic and you’re done.

And if you’re really feeling it, sprinkle it like this guy.

Where can you buy it?

The store I buy from is Zen Green Tea. They ship ridiculously quickly! And they offer heaps of packs in different sizes.

Matcha Maiden is also a great place to start. They have a dictionaries worth of recipes on their website for every occasion. Only down side is they offer limited package sizes.

Matcha Made in heaven

With it’s endless amount of benefits, there’s definitely a way to include matcha in your daily feasts or drinks!
